I am a nature photographer living and working in southeastern Massachusetts. The great thing about the SouthCoast is the variety of natural habitats and the animals, insects and plant life that can be found in them. There are beaches with shorebirds and crustaceans, fields humming with butterflies and dragonflies, vernal pools that shelter frogs and salamanders and snakes, woods with mushrooms and Indian pipes and ladies slippers, and ponds with turtles, ducks, swans and geese.
I have been a digital photographer for probably 8 years or so. I started with a little Sony Mavica I bought from a co-worker – it had, like, NO megapixels, but a decent, 10x optical zoom, and the thing actually recorded images onto a floppy disk! As I learned and gained experience, I moved on to successively better cameras, until finally I was ready for my first DSLR, a Sony a200. And again, as I have learned and gained experience, I have accumulated lenses, filters and other accessories for it.
I bring my camera with me EVERYWHERE I go. You never know when there might be a rainbow, or a hawk on a lamppost, or a raccoon on the beach. I dream about seeing butterflies and mushrooms, and in my dreams, my first thought is always, “Where is my camera??”
My work is aware of my photography skills, and has started giving me photo assignments to do for the Internet. So far I have created a fall foliage audio slide show and a Halloween houses audio slide show using my own pictures.
My work is available at Collyer’s Frame Gallery in Mattapoisett, Mass.; Riverside Art in Somerset, Mass.; and at the Euro Ship Store in Fairhaven, Mass. Last summer I was one of six artists in an invitational show titled “Birds, Bogs and Beaches” at the Marion Art Center in Marion, Mass. And for two years (2007-2008) I did the front page art on Christmas Day for The Standard-Times (2009 is the first year we didn’t publish on Christmas Day).
My photos are available for purchase as prints and note cards, or as stock photography for print or Web sites. I am also happy to weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Just e-mail me for details!
